Who am I.... that is a really good question. I have absolutely no idea.

My name is Nancy Beatrice Killoran. I was born on Monday, February 14 at 11:52 am in Boston. I have an older sister who is 19, three step-brothers (Ages 27, 31 and 32), and a step-sister (age 28). I live at home with my mom, my step-dad, and the youngest brother. Ever since I was little I've had to deal with something that most people never have to deal with: my mom is in a wheelchair. Carrie Lamont has MS, which is a disease that makes it so that she can't walk. No, it doesn't affect her brain, yes, she is the smartest person I know, and no, don't ask me because I have no idea, she is the one in charge. When I was little, before my mom met Ray (my step-dad), it was just me, my mom, and my sister. We called ourselves "the Girls Club". My sister and I had to help take care of my mom. This includes taking her to the bathroom, getting her food, getting her in and out of her chair... My mom and my dad got married so that my mom could have kids. Her doctor wanted to try chemo for the MS, but my mom INSISTED on having kids first. So, along came Emma Louise Killoran. Then, almost exactly 3 and a half years later, me. My dad, Jaime Killoran, is sort of a fail at everything. I know he loves my sister and I, but he has absolutely no clue of how to be a father. The fact that my dad doesn't know what the heck he's doing has made me and my sister pretty messed up. I'm not like mental case or anything, there isn't actually anything wrong in my brain. My sister is worse... but let's not get into that now.

Ok, I just realized that I haven't actually said anything about myself yet. WHOOPSY....

I love music. Its my passion. If I could do music all day every day, I would. There is nothing I love more. My entire family is oriented around music. My dad plays guitar and sings. My mom has a masters degree in music theory and is an active composer. My step-dad is all about marching band and drum corps, and has been writing and teaching since he was in his 20s. In my house, we have one piano, 4 synthesizers, 2 trumpets, 2 flutes, 2 guitars, a recorder, a french horn, a baritone, and a trombone. Not to mention the random maraca here and there. I get distracted way too easily and am so busy that I don't really have time to eat anymore. I'm really eager to take this AP class because I'm a HORRIBLE writer and I want to get better. I know that for college I'm going to need to be able to write. I'm hoping to be a better writer by the end of the school year.

Sorry for like... not talking about myself... there's not much to say about me personally, just my family and how I grew up, I guess...

  1. Nancy, thank you for your honest and revealing post. In fact, you are not a “horrible” writer. Your prose in that post was technically correct and quite inviting. It does sound like you have a lot to contend with, and truthfully, I am impressed that you achieve such success despite the obstacles you confront daily. It’s great to work with you again this year.
