So I'm pretty bad at talking about myself, but I guess I'll give it a try. My name is Katherine, but everyone calls me Kitty (oddly enough, I'm the only person in my family who isn't allergic to cats). This past summer, I worked at Brookwood Community Farm in Milton as a farmhand (and I have the farmer's tan to prove it!). It was really interesting to learn so much about the process that goes on before your mom puts food on your plate. I can honestly say I have a new respect for farmers and the food they grow, however, I don't think I could farm for a living. The work is very repetitive and the sun very strong!

Farming is in no way my priority, however. I play volleyball and tennis at school, and also the french horn. Volleyball is my favorite. I love the feeling when I get a spike (hitting) or stuff (blocking someone else's hit), and everyone on the team is friends with each other, something that can't be said for some sports teams. My favorite subjects in school are English and history. Basically, I just like to read, and people always give me grief over it. I think their just missing out on some good times, but that's their problem, not mine.

Personally, I have two life's goals. The first, to help people improve their situations in life, whether financial, emotional, medically, etc. Life is about chances and opportunities given, and since I have been given many opportunities, I feel I have a debt of sorts to repay to society by helping others. Secondly -and this is really vain and horrible to say, regardless of the fact that it's true- is that I want to be a somebody in life. There are 6+ billion people on this planet, it would be very easy to pass through life and be forgotten. Not for me. I want to make a significant enough difference in the world and be a somebody, not a nobody. To achieve these goals, I really want to work in international relations, whether as a politician or working for a non-profit. However, recent news makes me want to shy away from being a politician. People don't seem to like them!

So that's a brief overview of me....nothing exciting- YET.

  1. Yes, Kity, “YET.” I really enjoyed reading your post. Reading all of these posts from my former students makes me regret the fact that I have not done this with previous classes. I just learned more in your 400 words than I learned in our 180 days last year. Anyway, here’s a tidbit for you. When I saw your name on my roster this year, I immediately thought of our online journal. Last year, I sensed that you might have sometimes felt constrained by the rigid nature of freshman and sophomore writing. Hopefully, this journal (and class) will give you the opportunity to write in a more comfortable or familiar style. Regardless, great to see you again.
