I believe that an identity is based on a person’s appearance, their personality, their cultural background, and their hobbies. So I’ll start with my appearance. My light brown hair and blue eyes do not say much about me, but help to point in the general direction.
As for my personality, I am patient, calm, and attentive in class. At home I act like any other older sister to my two younger siblings. I consider my sister my best friend, but sometimes I feel like I could scream at her as loud as I can. I guess that’s normal when you have a love-hate relationship with a sibling. My brother is almost six years younger than me, but sometimes when I am with him I feel like acting like a ten-year old kid, just enjoying childhood. I also like to find time to read a little. With my friends I tend to be a little more open. I like joking around and have fun. I love eating a ton of sweets while watching movies.
When it comes to cultural background, I consider am half French and half American. I don’t know which language I started speaking first, but I do know that I love both. I love going to France and spending time with my cousins who I haven’t seen for a year. I don’t have cousins in the U.S. so I do my best when I’m on the other side of the Atlantic. I never like to be gone too long though, because my home is here. I’ve always been proud of being French because of the delicious food, the beautiful countryside, the Eiffel Tower, and other things France is known for. It’s something that makes me different from other people, and I value it.
One of the things I love to do the most is playing and listening to music. I started playing the violin when I was in third grade, which is a little late for a strings player, but I think I do ok for someone of my level. Senior Districts, which is a music festival, is probably the most challenging audition I play at each year. I started playing in a quartet when I was in eighth grade and it is the best musical experience of my life. I am also in the pit orchestra for the musical Anything Goes.
There you have it. Though this is a pretty good description of what my identity is, it’s hardly complete. I hope that this is enough to let you understand me a little more.

  1. Thanks Amelie. Great to see you again this year. I like your post, succinct but comprehensive. Please let me know if I can help you in any way this year. I have said before that I hope to learn French when I retire, but I want to start earlier. My wife and I visited Quebec City this summer, and of course, we’ve been to Paris, but one can only enjoy the French culture so much without knowing the language. I agree with your assessment of things French, and I am jealous.
