Although our time with the elementary school kids was short, it meant a lot. I didn't realize how much I would miss it until we were leaving. My penpal, Kenese followed me practically to the bus asking for hug after hug. It was so cute. Eventhough we didn't spend that much time together I felt like i really got to know her. All the kids were so polite and friendly, they appeared as if they honestly enjoyed us being there. I was impressed by some of the things I found around the classroom. What struck me the most was a posted with poetry terms on it, most of these terms being terms iI didn't learn until highschool. These children were very bright, and you could tell this by their behaviour. I really enjoyed visiting their school, it brought me back to my elementary school days. It was too bad they couldnt come to Walden with us, but i was so glad that we got to visit their school. It made me realize how happy something so simple as a group of highschoolers visiting would have made me, and I hoped that our visit had the same impact on them. Hopefully they can come visit us, or some sort of correspondence can be kept up.
Walden was also really cool. It was nice to get outside of the classroom and just be able to take the surroundings in. No matter how often teachers try to prove to us that it is important to step back and take in nature, this can not be realized until one is given the chance to do so. Being at Walden, at the location where Thoreau wrote made it easier to visualize what he was seeing when he wrote. There was one section of Walden that was completely covered over in trees and it was a lot darker than the other parts of the path, it was absolutely gorgeous. Myself and the two other girls I was with just stopped there for a few minutes just to look over the water. We all agreed that we definitely want to come back sometime this summer and just walk around and take in Walden's appearance during the summer. Perhaps maybe Walden was a little too touristy as some of the other people have pointed out, regardless I still thought it was gorgeous and there were spots and opportunities to stop and really zone out the outside world.
