Army Strong is something we have heard for a long time. The United States Military convinces people that the army is the strongest military branch in all. With commercials and images such as this they portray soldiers as "god-like". The photo that is shown upholds an important message to many young Americans who battle with what to do with their future. This photo shows that it is possible for anyone to be strong. They can be strong in general or they have the option of being Army strong where they have an opportunity to become something greater than life. Many Americans make the decision to join the army in order to become Army strong. The majority of the general population has no idea what "Army Strong" means. Soldiers however view "Army Strong" as a deep phrase that means the world to them. They see it as the strength of being able to do something millions of people are unable to do physically. It is also the strength to overcome possible emotional damage in order to complete the mission and to ensure the safety of as many people are possible.
People join the Army to be a part of something larger. They want a brotherhood with certain men. They want to protect their loved ones and stand up for what is right. They want to shoot a gun. They want to protect what is theirs. There are a million different reasons why people join the Army but there are very few reasons why they live by the motto "Army Strong". It means something incomprehensible to the majority of Americans but to soldiers it means the world. It can be the difference between life and death. The photo above shows that anyone is eligible to join the Army as long as they represent it well and can be strong enough to live up to the expectations of the Army.
Jamie, this is an interesting look at the United States Military attempt to prove that being apart of the army is ultimately the best and the strongest. I enjoyed reading your analysis of the "Army Strong" message used in order to convince Americans that they can become stronger than ever before by not only joining the army, but something bigger than yourself. I also agree with the examples of the reasons in which Americans prove themselves to be Army Strong. As you said about my own personal post, I would connect it more towards your Junior Research Paper as well as elaborating on non-military citizens about their opinions on what they feel it means to be "Army Strong" instead of just saying they do not know.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Job.
Jamie, this is a good post. Because I'm not exactly sure at this point what your paper will argue, I can't tell you whether or not this will work.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, this is great analysis of this image. Personally, I agree with everything you say about the image and the Army. Just make sure you use it as evidence in your larger argument.
