Got Milk? It is a simple question. This campaign to encourage more people to drink milk is know all over the world, not just America. As a teenager you flip to the back for almost any magazine and there is a picture of someone famous that will get your attention. Generally there is a milk mustache and two large words "Got Milk" are printed somewhere on the page.
In this ad there is a blurb about gaining strength like super man. It says that by drinking milk you can have bones of steel. As a child my calcium intake was larger than most kids. I would have a bowl of cereal with milk and a glass of milk on the side. For lunch I would have Macaroni and Cheese (made with milk for the cheese sauce) and nothing other than a glass of milk. Dinner was the only time I had milk just to drink and no calcium infused in my meal. Sometimes the breakfast and lunch menu would be changed but trust me I was drinking plenty of milk and yet my bones are made of calcium and not steel.
These ads are created to relate milk with positive things such as strength like Super Man. For teenagers it gives them the impression of "well if (insert famous person's name here) is drinking milk then it must be cool so I can too. Besides (same name) is my role model". I first realized these ads when I flipped to the back of my J-14 magazine in 7th grade in the square. I was reminded of all the fun times I shared with my neighbor and best friend. We would always drink milk and eat Macaroni and Cheese on a hot summer day after playing capture the flag. We would sit at the table outside and trade Pokemon cards or plan what bugs to hunt next.
Milk plays an important part in people's lives. Not only does it do great things for your body but like the posters it can represent some great times. In all of the ads the model smiles and looks extremely happy. Well in Super Man's case he looks serious but he has a serious job so he is the exception. In other ads the Olson twins are featured and they are constantly remembered as Michelle on Full House which is where they spent most of their childhood. They shared some special times on set and I'm sure people think of the great moments of the show when they look at those posters or ads.
here are a few examples of the ad in other countries: http://inventorspot.com/articles/got_milkinventive_marketing_5569
Thanks Jamie. This is good. I couldn’t agree more; the “Got Milk?” ad campaign has been quite effective. I’m glad you thought to analyze it. I think your analysis is very appropriate. The personal anecdote that you use to enhance your analysis works well. My only suggestion would be to be sure that you proofread your posts one more time, preferably out loud, before you post them. There are a few awkward sentences in this post. Two of the sentences in your introduction have errors.
