My name is Terrence Michael Walsh, even though most people call me "T" or "T. Walsh" I got my nickname from my mother when I was younger. I feel my name is unique because I do not know many people who have the name Terrence. Most people know a lot about me, but I'll share it in this blog. I have three older brothers, which is funny because my mom always wished for 4 boys. You could say growing up that there was always something going on, whether it be a huge street hockey game in the drive way or one of the most competitive wiffle ball games you could ever find in the backyard. It is tough when your the youngest because you tend to get into fights with your older brothers, which never ended well as you could imagine. I love being the youngest of 4 because my older brothers are my heroes and role models to me. My passion and integrity for sports and school are a direct result from my brothers and my parents. Growing up, I was easily my brothers biggest fans in sports; going to every game in high school and college to cheer them on. My brother Jim served in the United States Air Force and was deployed into places like Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan. He is now a Boston Firefighter, My brother Mike is a jet pilot in the Untied States Marine Corps and will be stationed for 8 years in San Diego with his wife Caitlin. My brother Ryan works at Eaton Vance in the North End and works in trading.
My brothers played Hockey, Lacrosse, and Football in college. I would like to round that out by playing baseball in college, which would be pretty funny. I play on the Varsity Football, Hockey, and Baseball teams at Milton High. Sports is almost like a second religion to me because that was all I was around for growing up. I never liked playing individual sports because I wanted to be on teams with others to ultimately achieve goals and work together. I work very hard in sports to succeed and achieve my highest potential. Being a student athlete is difficult, but I believe through hard work and determination that it is possible to achieve in both aspects of school and sports. I am also a Peer Mediator, serving to resolve conflicts created by students at Milton High. I am also a member of the Student Leaders as well.
I've always believed in being a leader instead of a follower, which I hold true to for the rest of my life.
My dream is to play college baseball. I attended a college showcase this summer at Milton High. Many top colleges were in attendance, including Boston College, Holy Cross, Northeastern, UCONN, Rhode Island, and Coastal Carolina. I believe through hard work and the drive to never give up that my dreams can become reality. I also worked as a lifeguard at the Wollaston Golf Club and saved an 8 year old boy's life this summer while watching the pool, something that gave me pride.
I hope that this year in english I can become a better writer. I feel as if when it comes to essays, my ideas are very well thought out but it is difficult to have the right sentence structure and have clear, well thought introductions and conclusions. I want to be able to make essays flow into each other and make sense. Through this Ap English course, I hope that I can turn my weaknesses into strengths in writing and feel confident in achieving my full potential in becoming a great writer.
Thanks Terence. I look forward to getting to know you this year. You have an impressive resume; I admire your efforts as a student athlete. You will have plenty of opportunities to improve your writing. However, it looks to me that you already have strong skills.
